Philosophy:
We are driven by the prospects of what design has to offer in the way of forming solutions to problems that face the world today. We are excited about the role that landscape architects can and do have in the constantly changing world and as students want to be involved in this paradigm shift.

Our aim:
Our aim is to enlighten people about the reality of landscape architecture and to expose
it in a new light. By encouraging rigorous discussion between students + professionals + academics about landscape architectural issues, we hope to provide a new voice for the profession. Xsection journal is an outlet for the integration and progression of all areas of landscape architecture.

2012_call for submissions
x-section 2012 is happening!
To kick it off, here's the brief for this years publication.
Have a good read and start thinking about what you would like to submit!
x-section is seeking submissions for the 2012 edition, which promote rigorous discussion about landscape architectural issues from both an academic and professional viewpoint.
This year Unitec Institute of Technology landscape architecture students were actively involved in the international event – The Understory - (Landscape Architecture Awareness Day). In keeping with this years Understory theme, the editorial team is prompted to ask the question:
‘What is Landscape Architecture’?
The team welcomes contemporary definitions + specific niches + new directions + revelations in the form of:
experimental and innovative design projects
written research
photographic works
collages
digital animations or film.
This year x-section offers a peer reviewed section to the publication. Articles for this section are welcome from landscape practitioners + academics + students. These submissions should aim to discuss relationships between practice and academia in keeping with the publication theme.

Slowness
Slowness:
There is a secret bond between slowness and memory, between speed and forgetting.
Consider this utterly commonplace situation: a man is walking down the street. At a certain moment, he tries to recall something, but the recollection escapes him. Automatically he slows down. Meanwhile, a person who wants to forget a disagreeable incident he has just lived through starts unconsciously to speed up his pace, as if he were trying to distance himself from a thing still too close to him in time.
In existential mathematics, that experience takes the form of two basic equations: the degree of slowness is directly proportional to the intensity of memory; the degree of speed is directly proportional to the intensity of forgetting.
Milan Kundera, Slowness (via thought-emancipation)
